I don't mean just physically tired, although I'm sure you are. I know I am, and I'm getting sinus drainage, so I'm a doubly happy camper, which is why this is gonna be a short post.
But I'm asking if you're tired of the whole voting platform.
I'm not sure what's a good way to handle voting, actually, but the ongoing recounts and challenges and draaaaaging it oooouuuuttt has me worn down.
There are several races here in Washington that are too close to call, including Ref. 71, although the last time I looked it was ahead, barely. By the time you read this, that could have changed. But this is what it looks like for now.
And here's the link so you can see how it went on a county-by-county basis, if you want to know. It's 51.12 to approve and 48.88 to reject, so for the moment the good guys are winning, but look at where it's happening.
There are the last-minute voters, any absentee ballots that haven't been counted, and then, as always here, the ones that are going to be kicked out for invalid or questionable signatures, or the ones with invalid or questionable signatures that get accepted anyway.
I hope it holds.
Gay marriage in Maine seems to have been soundly trounced, and I find that seriously disheartening. I really thought that if gay marriage stood a chance, it was in a State that generally doesn't say "boo" to anyone, doesn't care what other States say. Obviously, that isn't the case.
Perhaps I'm a bit too doom-and-gloom tonight, and I'm blaming that on sinus drainage.
Anyway, I hope you have a fabulous Wednesday, and I'll try to be more upbeat tomorrow. Nyquil, here I come!
The NY Times is still reporting only 51% of the vote on Ref. 71 with the Yeas having a lead of 511,000
to the Nays 491,000.
I hope the count continues to improve the lead.
I'm amazed that the Gay Marriage referendum was rejected in Maine, but the Christian Right wingers spent big bucks to scare people. I have friends in Portland, Me, and in Houlton, Me. They said last week that people were being told by church groups from outside of Maine that their kids would be forced to learn about sex ed in kindergarten that its "normal" for two men to have sex together and for two women to be "Moms"!
That's what we're up against in the bible belt states. I'm amazed that the people in Maine fell for the scare tactics used by hate mongers funded by the Christian right-wing!
Let's face it. Eventually Congress will have to legislate on the issue, which is what we want.
Cheer up!

Washington State is the first state to approve a gay referendum by popular vote.
YAYYYYYYY!
I HOPE YOU ARE TILTING THE QUAHOGS!
I always wanted to dig up one of those big piss clams, but I doubt I would ever eat one. I prefer food that doesn't look like an uncut you know...
WASHINGTON ROCKS!

Well now, not all the votes are in, and many won't be until the end of the week, probably. So it could still go the other way.
But it's looking like the Seattle area and King County are going to come through for us, and if so, that is a HUGE deal on a national level!
So fingers are still crossed, champagne is still corked, and patience is being practiced. But things are looking good!

It is sad that Maine went the way it did, but considering the energy and money invested in the defeat of equality it really shouldn't be surprising. The head of the opposition was on loan from the Catholic Church, which poured a lot of everything into the smear campaign, and evidently rural Maine is very Catholic. Focus on the Family and the Mormon Church also contributed a great deal of people and money from Colorado and Utah, using much of hte same hate based materials that they used here in Washington. The only way we will finally overcome the Old Testament bigotry and patriarical control freak nonsense is to keep standing for what is true and right. As I keep telling Lillian, someday that damn Hundreth Monkey principle well take effect.

And to that, Rev. Deanna, I have to add a hearty "Amen!".
